This hammer is the result of several years of testing and research into what makes a good drilling hammer. The DAMMERR will also serve well as a big wall, aid and piton hammer. Since a hammer is the most fundamental and useful of all tools, you will find it has many uses from driving tent stakes to tapping on rocks looking for loose flakes.
Each DAMMERR is handmade and there will be some variation from DAMMERR to DAMMERR. The DAMMERR has evolved over the years. The first DAMMERR had a crudely formed and heat treated head mounted on a hardware store handle. The current version of the head has a refined form that is accurately hardened and tempered. The current handle is shaped from dry labs of hickory.
The black finish on the steel head is how it comes out of the heating process, but has been coated with a very thin coat of boiled linseed oil. Linseed oil will prevent rust if you recoat the steel occasionally. Wipe the steel with an oiled rag, then wipe the steel again with a dry rag. Too much oil will be sticky and collect dirt.
The hammer handle is also finished with boiled linseed oil, so if you ever want to oil it, use linseed oil. It has a chord tether. By tying a loop in the end of the tether, you can simply girth hitch it to your harness or you can tie the cord to a shoulder length runner with a follow through knot. The hammer can be hung from a carabiner or holstered in a gear loop. If you like tape on the handle, hockey stick tap is the absolute best.
